Common Sense Dog Training



Puppy Kindergarten: 6 weeks in length Training classes are offered for puppies that have completed their vaccination schedule... somewhere between 13 and 22 weeks of age. Puppy socialization classes are designed to help owners through the ever-changing experience of puppyhood. It should be a pleasant time in a pup's life, but behavior-shaping needs to start while the pup is pliable and eager to learn, prior to the onset of adolescence. It is a family class so that all family members learn to work consistently with the pup. Free-play allows pups to discover the joys of playing with other dogs and allows them the important opportunity to "be a dog" for a short period of time. They also will learn valuable lessons from this play with other dogs. The puppy class is also a valuable, non-threatening experience for older, timid, but non-aggressive dogs, allowing them to grow in confidence. Each dog is evaluated carefully for its suitability for the puppy class and unsuitable dogs are moved into other classes. Beginning Obedience: 6 weeks in length We also offer Advanced puppy, beginning dogs for those five months and up through advanced class. Level Programs 1 thru 4: 16 weeks in length Level Program 5: 6 weeks in length Levels Training™ is a unique approach to class structure offered in five levels scheduled at different times on Saturdays. All family members are encouraged to participate. The dogs move from level to level at their own pace, and as proficiency requirements are met. This format allows the time needed to produce well-trained dogs and to gently work with those dogs having serious behavior problems. Levels 1 and 2 are basic attention and socialization exercises designed to get and keep the dogs' attention despite the distractions present. Levels 3 and 4 are designed to add exercises and tighten skills. Level 5 is designed for more advanced work leading to off-leash skills and preparing the dogs for the Canine Good Citizen Test. Each level has specific skill requirements that dog and handler must reach prior to moving on to the next level. Tricks, Agility and Canine Good Citizenship (level 5) - a six week fun class House Calls: We also offer a house call service for those pups too young for classes and individual problems with the puppy kindergarten environment.
